Inspired by writer and director Kenneth Branagh's experience growing up in Northern Ireland, BELFAST chronicles the life of a working-class Ulster Protestant family from the perspective of their nine-year-old son, Buddy, as the country is embroiled in the ethno-nationalist conflict that began in the late 1960s. The film received seven Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, and took home the trophy for Best Original Screenplay.
