Wednesday Movie Club: THE DARK KNIGHT In-Person

This film is being presented as part of the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library's Wednesday Movie Club, a weekly showcase of movies that matter for people who love movies.  Attendees will be invited to discuss the film immediately following the screening. Registration is not required. 

Last week, we watched Jack Nicholson's performance as "the Joker" in Tim Burton's BATMANThis week, we'll watch Heath Ledger's Oscar-winning interpretation of the role in Christopher Nolan's THE DARK KNIGHTLedger's performance is not only cited as one of the best examples of "method acting," but one of the greatest performances in film history. The toll the role took on the performer is also frequently cited as a factor in his untimely death six months before the film premiered in 2008.  As one reviewer put it, "Heath Ledger gives one of the best performances of the last twenty years. When you watch his take on the Joker, it's one of complete surprise and mystery. It's frightening with how chaotic and mischievous he makes him."

About the Film:

THE DARK KNIGHT reunites director Christopher Nolan with star Christian Bale, who returns to continue Batman's war on crime. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good. The triumvirate proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as the Joker (Heath Ledger), who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces the Dark Knight ever closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante.
