Last week, we watched Jack Nicholson's performance as "the Joker" in Tim Burton's BATMANThis week, we'll watch Heath Ledger's Oscar-winning interpretation of the role in Christopher Nolan's THE DARK KNIGHTLedger's performance is not only cited as one of the best examples of "method acting," but one of the greatest performances in film history. The toll the role took on the performer is also frequently cited as a factor in his untimely death six months before the film premiered in 2008.  As one reviewer put it, "Heath Ledger gives one of the best performances of the last twenty years. When you watch his take on the Joker, it's one of complete surprise and mystery. It's frightening with how chaotic and mischievous he makes him."
