Wednesday Movie Club: LOCKE In-Person
This film is being presented as part of the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library's Wednesday Movie Club, a weekly showcase of movies that matter for people who love movies. Attendees will be invited to discuss the film immediately following the screening. Registration is not required.
This month, we’re showcasing films that "rewrite the rules of cinema" by rethinking how stories can be told on screen. Through bold format choices and inventive use of the medium, these films challenge our expectations while deepening emotional impact. Together, they remind us that cinema is still evolving, and experimentation can be thrilling.
This week, we start our series with LOCKE, a tense, minimalist A24 drama starring Tom Hardy in one of his most controlled and compelling performances. Written and directed by Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, the film unfolds almost entirely inside a moving car as a series of phone calls slowly dismantle a man’s carefully ordered life. By limiting itself to a single location and a single on-screen performer, Locke rewrites the rules of cinematic space, proving how tension, character, and moral reckoning can be built through voice, time, and restraint alone.
