Wednesday Movie Club: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood In-Person

This May, we’re exploring directors with such bold, unmistakable visions that they refuse to be bound even by the reality of history. Through satire, myth, fantasy, and speculative revision, these films transform real eras into heightened, deeply personal worlds—sometimes playful, sometimes provocative, always distinctly their own.

Winner of two Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actor for Brad Pitt, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is writer-director Quentin Tarantino’s sun-drenched love letter to 1969 Los Angeles, and a bold act of cinematic revisionism. Set against the backdrop of a changing Hollywood and the looming shadow of real-life tragedy, the film follows fading television star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his loyal stuntman Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) as they navigate an industry in transition. Meticulously crafted and steeped in pop-culture detail, Tarantino blends nostalgia, humor, and simmering tension before reshaping history in a way only he would dare. The result is both a wistful tribute to a bygone era and a provocative meditation on myth, memory, and the power of movies to rewrite the past.

This film is being presented as part of the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library's Wednesday Movie Club, a weekly showcase of movies that matter for people who love movies.  Attendees will be invited to discuss the film immediately following the screening. Registration is not required.
