This month we're celebrating movies that "commit to the bit." These films begin with an idea that sounds completely ridiculous, then follow it with such conviction that the impossible not only becomes believable...it becomes irresistible. And what better way to begin a month about going all in than with a film whose characters are willing to go The Full Monty?

In this 1997 movie by British director Peter Cattaneo, six unemployed steelworkers hatch an unlikely plan to make some much-needed cash: become strippers. There's just one problem. They don't exactly look like the professionals. Their solution? Give the audience something the Chippendales won't.

Starring Robert Carlyle, Mark Addy and Tom Wilkinson, The Full Monty became one of the most unexpected cinematic sensations of the 1990s, earning four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. Beneath its outrageous premise lies a warm, sharply observed story about unemployment, masculinity, body image, friendship and the lengths we'll go to reclaim a little dignity. The Full Monty is funny, fearless, and deeply humane, as it proves that sometimes the only way to commit to the bit...is to go all in.

This film is being presented as part of the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library's Wednesday Movie Club, a weekly showcase of movies that matter for people who love movies.  Attendees will be invited to discuss the film immediately following the screening. Registration is not required.
