This month, we're celebrating movies that "commit to the bit." These films begin with an idea that sounds completely ridiculous, then follow it with such conviction that the impossible not only becomes believable...it becomes irresistible. This week, we're watching a film that applies that same unwavering commitment not to an impossible premise, but to an entire filmmaking style.

From director Christopher Guest (Waiting for Guffman, A Mighty Wind) comes one of the greatest ensemble comedies ever made.  Best in Show follows an eccentric collection of owners and their equally distinctive dogs as they prepare for the prestigious Mayflower Kennel Club Dog Show, finding humor not in punchlines but in the absolute sincerity with which every wonderfully peculiar character pursues their dream.

Much of the film's dialogue was improvised by an extraordinary cast, including Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Parker Posey, Michael Hitchcock, Michael McKean, John Michael Higgins, Jane Lynch, Jennifer Coolidge, Bob Balaban, Fred Willard, and Christopher Guest himself. Filled with endlessly quotable moments and unforgettable performances, Best in Show remains one of the funniest and most beloved mockumentaries ever made.

This film is being presented as part of the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library's Wednesday Movie Club, a weekly showcase of movies that matter for people who love movies. Attendees will be invited to discuss the film immediately following the screening. Registration is not required.
