Annalee Newitz looks at how the stories we absorb — from everyday internet chatter to sweeping political narratives — quietly shape what we believe and how we behave. Drawing on history and contemporary reporting, Newitz shows how powerful groups have long used storytelling to steer public opinion, but also how ordinary people push back, reinterpret, and reclaim those stories. The book invites readers to think about the narratives we live inside and the choices we make about which ones to accept, resist, or rewrite.
