Wednesday Movie Club: SULLIVAN'S TRAVELS

Wednesday Movie Club: SULLIVAN'S TRAVELS In-Person

This film is being presented as part of the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library's Wednesday Movie Club, a weekly showcase of movies that matter for people who love movies.  Attendees will be invited to discuss the film immediately following the screening. Registration is not required.

Few movies are as universally beloved as the 1941 screwball comedy, SULLIVAN'S TRAVELS.  This classic "road film," stars Joel McCrea as a successful movie director who believes he has not suffered enough for his art. To set things right, he dons a disguise and sets off on a journey, aiming to "know trouble" first-hand.  When all he finds is a train ride back to Hollywood and a beautiful blonde companion (Veronica Lake), he redoubles his efforts and manages to land himself in more trouble than he bargained for.  As one film historian wrote, SULLIVAN'S TRAVELS not only helped cement writer-director Preston Sturges' place in movie history, it's "the sweetest, most generous-hearted satire of the Hollywood film industry the town has ever produced."
