Spike Lee is one of Hollywood's most accomplished filmmakers. Renowned for his ability to tell stories that are both timely and timeless, he's won an Honorary Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement and has had five films (including DO THE RIGHT THING and MALCOLM X) selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. However, despite all of his achievements, Lee didn't win a competitve Oscar until 2018 when he took home the statue for writing BLACKKLANSMAN. Based on an incredibly true story, the film follows a black detective (John David Washington) as he sets out to infiltrate the Colorado chapter of the Ku Klux Klan with the help of his Jewish colleague (Adam Driver). In the midst of the 1970s civil rights movement, the two risk their lives to obtain insider information on the violent organization. It's a profound, distressing, sometimes exhilarating and often laugh-out-loud-funny film you won't want to miss.
