Wednesday Movie Club: SUMMER OF SOUL

Wednesday Movie Club: SUMMER OF SOUL In-Person

This film is being presented as part of the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library's Wednesday Movie Club, a weekly showcase of movies that matter for people who love movies.  Attendees will be invited to discuss the film immediately following the screening. Registration is not required.

Over the course of six weeks in the summer of 1969 -- just one hundred miles south of Woodstock -- The Harlem Cultural Festival was filmed in Mount Morris Park. The footage was never seen and largely forgotten until 2021 when Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson released SUMMER OF SOUL. Heralded as one of the best films of the 21st century, this Oscar-winning documentary is a testament to the importance of history and the healing power of music. The film features never-before-seen concert performances by Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly & the Family Stone, Gladys Knight & the Pips, and more. Simply put: this week's selection will both bring you to tears and have you dancing in your seat.
