Wednesday Movie Club: THE MISSION In-Person
This film is being presented as part of the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library's Wednesday Movie Club, a weekly showcase of movies that matter for people who love movies. Attendees will be invited to discuss the film immediately following the screening. Registration is not required.
This September, our Wednesday Movie Club is proud to celebrate the remarkable artistry of Maestro Ennio Morricone, one of the greatest film composers of all time. A classically trained composer and technical master—often compared with all-time greats like Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart—Morricone elevated the art of film scoring, creating themes that are instantly recognizable, profoundly moving, and forever tied to the magic of cinema.
Our celebration begins with Roland Joffe's 1986 film, THE MISSION, starring Jeremy Irons and Robert DeNiro. Morricone's soaring, spiritual score is often cited as one of the most beautiful ever written. Set in 18th-century South America, this powerful story follows Spanish Jesuit priests and a former slave trader as they defend a remote indigenous community from colonial powers. Visually breathtaking and emotionally impactful, it’s a film that stays with you, made transcendent by Morricone’s unforgettable music.
